Customers are often attracted to our composite doors because they love the idea of owning a front or rear door that they don’t have to maintain.
Very few of us have the time to be repainting, varnishing and repairing our doors every few months, but neglecting to do that when it is a traditional wooden door can lead to severe decaying, expensive energy bills, poor security, ugly aesthetics, excess heat loss and a whole host of other related problems.
You don’t have to worry about any of this after having a composite door from the Essex Composite Door Shop fitted as any future upkeep is extremely minimal and it will age beautifully.
Only a little bit of effort now and again needs to go into sustaining the look of your composite door and three simple tasks will help you do it…
- Fill a bucket with warm soapy water and get a soft cloth
It is inevitable that dirt and grime will build up on the door after a time and removing it couldn’t be easier or quicker.
Drench a soft cloth (don’t use an abrasive cloth as it could damage the finish) with warm soapy water and wipe the door frame, glass panels, hardware (handles, hinges, number plates etc.) and surrounding frame. The dirt and grime should easily come away without you needing to get in a real lather, so to speak.
- Dry the glass panels with a microfibre cloth
Unless it’s a completely solid composite door it will have glass panels and once they have been washed with a wet cloth they should be dried off.
So that no streaks or smears are left on the glass, use a non-abrasive microfibre cloth to dry it. To make the glass really sparkle you could squirt an appropriate glass cleaner onto the surface before drying.
- Lubricate the lock
To keep the lock working smoothly, lubricate it around every 12 months with a lock lubricant (avoid WD40!) as it will stop it becoming stiff. We can suggest suitable lock lubricants if you’re unsure of what to use.
