Locks, cylinders & keys.
A clear guide to what you operate and what secures the door.

Three parts, different jobs.
- Handle or finger pull
- The part you grip to open or close the door.
- Locking mechanism
- The system inside the edge of the door that operates its locking points.
- Cylinder
- The key-operated part that controls access to the lock.
Using a lever handle.
A lever handle is operated by hand. The existing shop describes lifting the handle to engage the locking points, then turning the key. Our doors come with the Yale Lockmaster locking system; ask the installer to show you yours at handover.
Using a finger pull.
A finger pull is a fixed grip, not a lever. On solid core doors fitted with contemporary hardware, the GU Slam Lock (the Winkhaus AV2 system) engages its bolts the moment the door closes; a turn of the key bolts it from inside and opens it from outside. A finger pull alone does not show which lock your door has, so HHI confirms it at your survey, before your door is made.
The cylinder supplied with your door.
Our doors come with the Yale Lockmaster: Yale’s cylinder and platinum handle combination, accredited with the TS007 3* BSI Kitemark. The Ultion Sold Secure Diamond cylinder (TS007 3 star) is available as an option. You get 3 keys as standard: they are high-security keys that a locksmith cannot cut, and your key card lets you order more online securely.
Try it together at handover.
Ask the installer to demonstrate opening, closing and locking from both sides, and how any internal release works. Keep the supplier instructions with your order documents.
